Tim Boughton is currently helping elite individuals and organisations gain that extra margin through cognitive and behavioural science – Harnessing the Power of the Mind. Having spent 20 years in the British military as an Infantry Officer and a Commando Helicopter Pilot with the Royal Navy, he then furthered his career working for the banking world in London. In 2008 he developed PTSD and embarked on a life long journey of discovery to help both himself and others – this journey has changed his life. He discovered that if we understand our mind and our body then we place ourselves in a much better place for recovery. As a result, Tim studied at Oxford University to gain a Master of Studies in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, he is completing a Masters in Psychology and works with elite military and commercial entities around the world. A trauma specialist, he has studied under some of the worlds leading trauma experts and has brought that to bear in his work with others.
Regarded as an expert in his field of military mindfulness and trauma, Tim is often asked to educate and inform leading groups of researchers and organisations to help them understand how this important topic can be utilised in the resilience and treatment of others. A Leader, entrepreneur and cognitive specialist, Tim has written numerous courses now being used around the world, has written papers on the benefits of Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, all of which serve to inform others not only in the military, but other sectors as well. He has also worked within the National Health Service in the UK, FTSE 100 Companies, Global Family Offices and formulated advice to UK and Foreign Governments. His work with next generation families is well established and has built life-long friendships as a result.
Tim has extensive experience in advising high level leadership around the world and was Knighted in 2014 for his work as an advisor in the Caribbean. Tim was also awarded the Commander of the Order of St John (presented by HM the Queen) for his work in the charity sector, a Fellowship of the Institute of Leadership and a Fellowship of the Royal Society of Public Health. He has been recognised as a ‘trailblazer’ in the world of mental health and was asked by the British Army in 2019 to lead Mental Health Engagement, which he did for three years over COVID, leading a team to transform mental health and build individual and unit resilience and fortitude in the military. He is often in demand as a speaker, facilitator and advisor in numerous fields, more recently on the effects of the mind body interface and trauma and its effects.
Tim still continues to fly helicopters for a member of Pink Floyd, loves music (he was a music scholar and plays 5 instruments), and sits as a NED to many large and small organisations as a sounding board for the directors and Family Offices.
